Nile McElhaney

My name is Nile McElhaney and I am a rising senior in high school, pursuing my Associate in Science from Laney College. I would like to work in medicine, specifically, women’s health and nursing, to help young girls and women become more informed about their bodies and the health resources accessible to them.
Growing up, I struggled to hear sounds and words in sentences, making reading a seemingly unbearable task. Despite having tutoring support, there were countless moments of feeling discouraged and unsure of my abilities. Nevertheless, I pushed forward and was successfully reading at grade level by my fifth-grade year. This is one of many challenges I have overcome, and since then, my unshakeable spirit has pushed me to be a 4.2 GPA student, health clinic volunteer, and multiple award recipient among other things.

My core values are God, Family, Knowledge, and Loyalty. Throughout my journey, these principles have upheld my standards in the way I approach life and education and enforce my reasoning behind wanting to advance in the medical field. My core values keep me grounded and showcase who I really am.
